First, it was the car that drove off a cliff at Bar Beach last week.
The driver miraculously survived, while a mother and her young child, who were playing on the beach below, suffered leg injuries and minor scratches respectively.
Who would think that simply going to the beach on a Thursday morning could end up putting your life in danger?
During this same week, another incident in Lake Macquarie – this time in the early hours of Saturday morning – highlighted the way stupidity and selfishness can negatively impact innocent people’s lives.
Eleven people were injured – one critically – when a 17-year-old driver, who was already disqualified from driving and allegedly later returned a positive roadside breath test, reportedly decided to run a red light in Edgeworth and collided with a van, which was operating as a taxi.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the mother-of-three who is, at the time of going to print, still in a critical condition in hospital.
Today – 1 October – officially marks the start of the bushfire season.
