Fourteen-year-old charged after police pursuit ends in Hamilton

A 14-year-old boy has been refused bail after the vehicle he was driving was involved in a police pursuit that ended on Beaumont Street in Hamilton on Sunday night.

The boy was one of four teenagers caught in a Hyundai Sonata sedan allegedly stolen from a home in Warabrook earlier that evening.

The driver, already on bail, failed to stop as requested by police from Lake Macquarie Police District who were conducting high visibility patrols in the Argenton area.

A brief pursuit followed but was terminated due to the manner of driving a short time later.

Road spikes were deployed on the Newcastle Link Road in Wallsend, with the vehicle coming to a stop on Beaumont Street at Hamilton about 11.45pm.

The driver of the car, a 14-year-old boy, and his three passengers – two boys aged 14 and 16, and a 16-year-old girl – were arrested by officers attached to Newcastle City Police District before being taken to Newcastle Police Station.

The driver was charged with a string of offences including being in possession of a stolen vehicle, dangerous driving, and refusing to stop for police.

The two male passengers were also charged with offences.

The female passenger was charged with offences including being in possession of a prohibited drug, and breach of bail.

All four teens were refused bail to appear before a children’s court Monday 25th March.

It follows a similar incident just six days ago in which teens were arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle in Lambton before being caught by police in Tomago.
