FlyPelican spreads wings to Port Macquarie

A regular service to Port Macquarie is set to take flight from Newcastle Airport next month.

Local airline FlyPelican will launch the weekly timetable from Thursday 4 February, allowing Novocastrians to experience the delights of the Mid-North Coast town on a frequent basis.

Fares are expected to start at $85, including 20kg checked luggage, one way.

The 30-minute trip will depart Newcastle Airport at 1.30pm and arrive at 2pm; with the return journey leaving Port Macquarie at 7.30pm and landing at 8pm.

The announcement comes on the back of FlyPelican’s successful unveiling of a tri-weekly service to the Sunshine Coast earlier this month.

Newcastle Airport CEO Dr Peter Cock said the continued support of the region was behind the recent addition of several new routes.

“What we’ve seen over the past 12 months is strong, ongoing demand for air travel to and from our catchment, which has consistently been higher than the rest of the nation,” he explained.

“I think it’s not only a sign that our regional economy is very resilient, but also that people are comfortable using our airport for domestic travel.

“Newcastle Airport offers a stress free, non-congested, COVID-19 safe environment that gives our customers peace of mind and quick connections to where they want to go.”

FlyPelican CEO Marty Hawley echoed Dr Cock’s sentiments, saying the continued expansion of his airline’s network was a direct result of the ongoing vote of confidence from the region.

“Despite all the hurdles that the pandemic has thrown up, we’ve found strong demand for inexpensive, convenient travel,” he said.

“We’re hopeful the addition of this quick flight to Port Macquarie continues that trend.”

Port Macquarie-Hastings mayor Peta Pinson was delighted to see FlyPelican build on the success of the Port Macquarie to Canberra service.

“This is wonderful for our community, providing yet another opportunity for us to spread our wings and travel locally within our beautiful country,” she said.

“Local getaways are becoming increasingly popular.

“We look forward to welcoming and showcasing our region to even more visitors from Newcastle.”
