Firies battle blaze at former Singleton school complex

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Superintendent Scott Dodson has issued a timely warning after crews battled a blaze at a former Singleton school complex overnight.

FRNSW personnel from station 444, and other brigades, arrived at the Patrick Street facility at 12.13am on Tuesday 5 October to find two buildings alight in the abandoned section of the premises.

They gained access using power saws and specialised tools to enter the boarded-up school complex.

Once firefighters controlled and extinguished the fire, the scene was handed to Hunter Valley Police District officers for further investigation.

Superintendent Dodson reiterated – to residents – the importance of dialling 000 on such occasions.

“This is a reminder that calling Triple Zero for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed,” he explained.

“The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you.

“It should be used to contact police, fire or ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.”
