Firefighters extinguish unit fire in Mayfield

SHARE

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) have prevented a fire from spreading through a two-storey residential building on Hanbury Street in Mayfield this morning (Saturday 9 October).

More than 15 firefighters from Mayfield West, Lambton and Carrington stations battled flames issuing from the ground floor of the building at about 10am.

Luckily, they were able extinguish the blaze and save neighbouring apartments from damage.

NSW Police evacuated 12 residents from the building prior to FRNSW’s arrival, there were no reported injuries.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

With FRNSW attending numerous house fires, Superintendent Scott Dodson said it was a timely reminder for residents to develop their fire escape plan.

“Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency,” he said.
