More information has come to light about the devastating death of a two-year-old in Fingal Bay this week.
According to NSW Police, the young child – found unresponsive at home on Monday 23 June – was involved in a ‘tragic misadventure’ reportedly involving his hooded top.
It’s understood the clothing became caught on a curtain rod.
As reported by the Newcastle Weekly on Monday, emergency services, including CareFlight, were called to the premises about 12.10pm.
Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District implemented CPR until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics and Careflight doctors.
Tragically, the boy died at the scene.
Police immediately began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A report is also being prepared for the Coroner.
According to an online report for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), children have died or suffered serious injuries from entangling themselves on drawstrings on their clothing.
They advise that parents and carers take extreme care when buying clothing for them to minimise the risk of injury and death.
