The frontmen of iconic Australian bands Powderfinger and Something for Kate are set to bring their latest collaboration to Newcastle in 2025.

Bernard Fanning and Paul Dempsey, who have also enjoyed stellar solo careers, will take their much-lauded Fanning Dempsey National Park on tour to regional Australia for the first time.

The pair is scheduled to perform an all-ages show at the Civic Theatre on Friday 16 May.

Showcasing their electrifying debut album The Deluge to life on stage, the setlist will deliver surprises for fans with additions from their collective songbooks and record collections.

It’ll also feature the single Blackstar, a bonus song not included on the CD.

Blackstar went through a full cycle of styles before arriving fully formed… as a minimalist pop rock tune,” Fanning said.

“Sometimes when putting an album together you can deceive yourself into adding more ‘stuff’ to a song to make it sound different.

“Often, leaving that ‘stuff’ out is the key to making it work.

“Just let the song be itself, as written, and step away from it.

“I think we only did a couple of takes of this one.”

The Deluge debuted at No. 3 on the ARIA Album Chart, No. 1 on the Vinyl Chart and was the Double J Feature Album.

Fanning Dempsey recently captured global attention with their incredible performance for ABC TV’s NYE24 broadcast concert, set against the iconic Sydney Harbour backdrop to help welcome in the new year for an audience of millions.

As quoted by Rolling Stone: “It’s the sound of two men defying expectations, venturing into new sonic territory with gleeful abandon and, most importantly, having fun.

“Fanning Dempsey National Park is such a delight.

“The chemistry, the energy and the sheer joy of seeing these two legends share the stage makes for an unforgettable experience.

“Missing this simply isn’t an option.

“Postcards and polaroids from the Fanning Dempsey National Park simply don’t do it justice… you have to see it for real.”

Tickets go on sale on Thursday 23 January at 10am from www.fanningdempseynationalpark.com
