Fallon, Elliott lead Newcastle Independents’ council charge

The Newcastle Independents will launch a two-prong assault on the upcoming council elections.

Councillor Kath Elliott, who’s represented Ward 2 during this latest term, has been announced as the Ward 4 candidate, while PJ Fallon is moving up the ticket to lead the team in Ward 2.

Cr Elliott also replaces the controversial Allan Robinson, who parted ways with the Newcastle Independents in July.

“I live and work in Ward 4, as do my daughters and their young families,” she said.

“So, I’m hoping those residents put their faith in me at the next election.”

Cr Elliott admitted she would fight for the completion of flood mitigation for Wallsend and work closely with the state government to resolve the traffic jams on Minmi Road.

“We desperately require an upgrade to Minmi Road and people who use it every day deserve to enjoy the benefits of faster commute times,” she said.

“Ward 4 is the home of many hard-working families… and they should have a representative who is focused on their needs.”

Meanwhile, Mr Fallon, a born and bred Novocastrian, is well-placed to represent Ward 2 as he lives in Merewether and boasts a business in Hamilton.

He’s very keen to see City of Newcastle operating “always in the best interests of all residents” and delivering the best value for money to ratepayers, not just for now but also for the long term.

He would like to drive improvements to both the Beaumont Street and Brunker Road local business centres in Hamilton and Adamstown respectively.

“If considered worthy of election by my constituents, I would walk into council with an open mind and listening ear to all fellow councillors,” Mr Fallon said.

“I will always have the intention of doing the best for the community.”
