Newcastle City Police District is appealing for motorists to exercise caution around McDonald Jones Stadium.
A new pop-up drive-through COVID-19 testing site – conducted by Laverty Pathology – opened at the Turton Road location on Friday 6 August.
It will operate from Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 7.30am until 4pm.
However, the centre’s introduction in the past 24 hours has caused wide-spread congestion at Broadmeadow and neighbouring suburbs.
“There are extensive traffic delays surrounding the stadium due to COVID-19 testing, police are managing flow at the site,” a Newcastle City Police District spokesperson said.
“Please be patient with officers as we continue to minimise the disruption to the local area.
“If a testing site is experiencing extensive queues, there are several centres open across the Hunter.”
