An exhibition, which draws on Newcastle’s unique character both past and present in a series of ceramic and glass photographs, will open to the public this week.
Newcastle Studio Potters Inc, located at 57 Bull Street, Cooks Hill, is presenting I am…(Newcastle) at its Back to Back Galleries, featuring the works of Sydney duo Mike Moore and Jeff Lees, from Friday 18 June to Sunday 4 July.
From the cedar cutters who were the backbone of the earliest settlement on the Hunter to the RAAF Base, the V8 Racing, the Newcastle Knights and our beaches, the images depict what everyone loves about the City.
“Currently our ceramics are focusing on transferring photographic images onto ceramics and glass by means of a laser toner printer and decal paper,” Moore said.
“We aim to reproduce images of everyday life.
“Unlike traditional photography, these images are permanent, durable and weatherproof and will last the test of time.
“They are also hand-coloured using ceramic enamel paints.”
Newcastle Studio Potters Inc is a not-for-profit incorporated association supporting ceramic artists.
Its gallery, Back to Back, while presenting exhibitions in various media, focuses on traditional and contemporary ceramics.
“We’re excited to host Mike and Jeff’s works,” Newcastle Studio Potters publicity officer Marian Marcatili said.
“The official opening and artist talk will take place on 18 June between 6pm and 8pm, while weekend viewings are available by appointment on 0478 296 367 or 0425 250 313.
“We’re still following COVIDSafe protocol, so QR registers remain and social distancing is regulated.”
