Essential trackwork shuts down Hunter Valley, North Coast lines

SHARE

Essential maintenance works will shutdown the Hunter Valley and North Coast rail corridors this weekend.

Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) crews are expected to carry out the improvements between Newcastle and Acacia Ridge in Queensland from Saturday 23 August to Monday 25 August.

It’s part of the organisation’s annual program and a significant investment in the network.

Work is scheduled at:

  • Newcastle and Maitland from 3am on Saturday 23 August to 1am on Monday 25 August
  • Telarah from 5am on Saturday 23 August to 7.30pm on Monday 25 August

More than 900 maintenance activities will be completed on the Hunter Valley and North Coast lines, including re-railing, ballast cleaning, track reconditioning, turnout renewals, bridge construction, track and signalling maintenance and vegetation control, which will keep the network running safely and efficiently.

Crews are expected to minimise the impact of the work wherever possible, too, by positioning light towers to shine away from residences, watering down work areas and limiting the number of machines operating at any one time.

“The rail network requires regular maintenance to ensure that it continues to play a pivotal role in supporting vital links to the region’s economic supply chain,” ARTC group executive operations Clinton Crump said.

“The program of works is designed to minimise disruption to passenger and freight services.

“So, the ARTC would like to thank everyone for their patience.”

Coaches and buses will replace NSW TrainLink services during the trackwork period and customers are encouraged to visit Transportnsw.info or phone 13 22 32 for assistance in planning their journey.

Information on road closures or diversions and alternative routes can be found at livetraffic.com.

The ARTC reminds motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant for altered traffic conditions near the rail corridor, pay attention to signage and to obey all road rules at level crossings, with rail machinery active on rail lines.
