The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will carry out essential maintenance and improvement works across the Hunter Valley network this week.
As a result, the shutdown is scheduled to impact:
- From Kooragang to Turrawan and Muswellbrook to Ulan from 6.30am on Tuesday 23 September to 6.30am on Friday 26 September
- Waratah to Telarah from 8.30pm on Tuesday 23 September to 3.30am on Thursday 25 September
Crews are focusing on critical upkeep and defect removal, including track geometry repairs, track component replacements, and other scheduled programs.
Additional activities include 400m track reconditioning, approximately 5km of rerailing, culvert installations, bridge repairs and turnout renewal.
“The Hunter Valley rail network requires ongoing maintenance to maintain its vital role in supporting the region’s economic supply chain,” ARTC group executive operations Clinton Crump said.
“So, this major shutdown allows us to implement upgrades that enhance the safety, capacity, reliability, and resilience of the network.
“It is a significant investment that ensures our rail infrastructure remains well-equipped to meet the growing demand for both freight and passenger services.
“We’d like to thank the community for its understanding and patience as we make these important long-term improvements.”
Wherever possible, ARTC crews will position light towers to shine away from residences, water down work areas and limit the number of machines operating at any one time.
Coaches are also scheduled to replace NSW TrainLink services during the trackwork period, with customers encouraged to visit transportnsw.info or phone 13 22 32 for assistance in planning their journey.
Information on road closures or diversions and alternative routes is available at livetraffic.com.
Up to date details regarding any changes to these works can be found on the ARTC Trackwork website and, for additional particulars, community members are encouraged to contact ARTC’s Community line on 1300 550 402.
