Motorists will face a bit of inconvenience travelling on Hunter roads this week, especially around Hexham and Tarro.

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) plans to carry out deck repairs and essential maintenance on the Hexham Bridge at night, ensuring the southbound bridge is closed.

However, it’ll re-open to traffic outside of working hours and non-working days.

The work’s slated from 8pm to 5am until Wednesday 20 November, as well as from Sunday 24 November to Tuesday 26 November.

It’s expected to be completed in seven shifts over two weeks.

All vehicles heading to Maitland will be detoured over the northbound bridge and can utilise the temporary U-turn bay to continue their journey.

Construction continues along the Hexham Straight Widening project, too.

To minimise the impact, work will take place overnight until Wednesday 20 November from 7pm to 5am at the following locations:

• On Monday 18 November, there’ll be traffic control in place on Maitland Road either side of Shamrock Street. The signals will be “blacked out” and under the direction of traffic controllers
• On Tuesday 19 November, there’ll be contraflow arrangements for inbound and outbound traffic on Maitland Road between Old Maitland Road at Sandgate and north of Sparke Street. The traffic signals will be “blacked out” and under the direction of traffic controllers
• On Wednesday 20 November, there’ll be contraflow arrangements for inbound and outbound traffic on Maitland Road from north of Shamrock Street to Old Maitland Road at Sandgate. The traffic signals will be “blacked out” and under the direction of traffic controllers

Over-Size Over-Mass (OSOM) vehicles with a ground contact wider than 3.2m or with overall width greater than 4.5m are advised to phone the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 1800 515 141.

Significant delays will occur if they fail to do so.

Major work resumes from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 7pm to 7am Sunday to Thursday; and between 8am and 1pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, construction continues on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace as well.

Work will be carried out at night at the following locations:

• From 7pm to 5am on Monday 18, Tuesday 19 and Thursday 21 November, the eastbound off ramp from the New England Highway to Anderson Drive will be closed with a detour in place via New England Highway/Maitland Road
• From 7pm to 5am on Monday 18, Tuesday 19 and Thursday 21 November, the John Renshaw Drive slip lane (westbound from New England Highway) will be closed with a detour in place via Weakleys Drive to John Renshaw Drive and the M1 Motorway. This detour is unsuitable for vehicles operating on the SPV Level 6, SPV Level 4 and 12t/ axle and SPV Level networks. OSOM vehicles and special purpose vehicles will be escorted through the closure
• From 7pm to 5am on Monday 18, Tuesday 19 and Thursday 21 November, Tomago Road will be closed at the intersection with the Pacific Highway, with a detour in place to allow installation of new traffic signals. Motorists will be detoured via Old Punt Road to access Tomago Road from the Pacific Highway during this time

Operators of OSOM vehicles with a ground contact wider than 3.2 metres or with overall width greater than 4.5 metres are advised to touch base with the project team on 0423 323 946 at least one day ahead of proposed movement.

Otherwise, significant delays can occur.

Major work resumes across the remainder of the project from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 8am to 5pm on Saturday; as well as out of hours from 7pm to 5am Monday to Friday.

It’ll also require lane closures with intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h at the following locations and times:

From 7pm to 5am, on the nights of Monday 18 November to Friday 22 November:

• M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill
• John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield
• New England Highway at Tarro
• Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae
• Old Punt Road near Pacific Highway at Tomago

From 7am to 5pm, Monday 18 November to Friday 22 November:

• Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill
• Old Punt Road near Pacific Highway at Tomago
• New England Highway Eastbound at Tarro
