Employees vote Singleton Council as best workplace in Australia

Singleton Council boasts proof it’s one of Australia’s best places to work.

The local government agency recently won a 2025 Xref Engage Best Workplace Award following outstanding results in its latest anonymous employee engagement survey.

A prestigious national honour, the accolade also celebrates organisations that demonstrate exceptional people management practices that foster highly-engaged, high-performing teams.

Based on the outcome of council’s 2025 Engagement Survey, staff reported satisfaction levels 10 percentage points above the local government industry average — an achievement only a select number reach each year.

That was enough to put a smile on the face of Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr.

Singleton Council’s general manager said the recognition was especially meaningful because it was based directly on the feedback from people within the organisation.

“As a values-driven outfit dedicated to creating community, we don’t just talk about our values,” he explained.

“We live, breathe and execute them every single day.

“So, this recognition reflects that shared commitment.

“It’s one thing for an organisation to say it’s a great place to work.

“But, it is something else entirely when the team says we’re getting it right.

“It’s a powerful reflection of the culture and commitment shared by everyone at Singleton Council.”

Mr Fitzpatrick-Barr said the result echoed the strength and diversity of council’s employees, united by a shared purpose to “create community”.

“Local government brings together such a wide range of professions, trades and skill sets,” he stated.

“However, they’re all working with one goal: to deliver the best possible outcomes for our community.

“This award confirms that the approach we’ve taken doesn’t just make Singleton Council a great employer, but an industry leader.

“There are always incredible opportunities to join our team… and I’d encourage anyone looking for a career where you can add value and be valued to consider Singleton Council.”
