Emma’s Cottage Vineyard finds a new custodian

Emma’s Cottage Vineyard has a new custodian.

The Lovedale boutique winery with a fully-licensed cellar door and 40-seat café has been snapped up by real estate and property investors Mulpha Australia.

The group, with a base in Sydney, also owns neighbouring Bimbadgen Estate winery.

The purchase allows the group to expand its tourism footprint in the Hunter Valley wine region and further its bid to attract Sydney-based and overseas visitors to the area.

Boasting a commercial kitchen, the Wilderness Drive address also offers accommodation that includes a five-bedroom, two-storey family homestead, plus four self-contained two-to-four-bedroom cottages overlooking vineyards, gardens and broader landscape.

It is also adjacent to the historic Rothbury Cemetery, which although owning a separate title, is maintained by Cessnock City Council and adds to the property’s charm.

Set on an expansive 12 hectare property, including a 3-hectare established boutique vineyard, Mulpha Australia CEO Greg Shaw says Emma’s Cottage is a step toward rebuilding Hunter Valley visitation rates.

“Emma’s Cottage Vineyard is a quality boutique property in this premium tourism region that complements our existing Bimbadgen Estate offering nearby,” he said.

“While the past 18 months have been difficult for most tourism operators, one benefit is that it has reawakened people’s interest in enjoying unique regional experiences in their own country.

“Emma’s Cottage Vineyard is a welcome addition to our premium portfolio that will capitalise on that trend as we look to rebound strongly into 2022 and beyond.”

Mulpha’s general manager of hospitality Belinda Stapleton says the purchase represented an exciting time for the wine region.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the rising stars of the Bimbadgen team to create something different in the Hunter while allowing the Bimbadgen brand to stay true to its winemaking roots,” she said.

“While initially we will continue to run the existing business, we see potential to further develop a bespoke offering which will be created and launched in 2022.”
