Emergency sewer repair work is scheduled for Donald Street in Hamilton on Wednesday, which will impact motorists in the area.
A section of the main has collapsed under the road and Hunter Water’s essential maintenance involves deep excavation.
That means all westbound traffic lanes on Donald Street, between Lawson and Beaumont streets, will be fully-closed from 7am on 13 November until later in the month.
“We’ll work 24 hours a day for about 10 days, assuming favourable weather and no major issues,” a Hunter Water spokesperson said.
“Scheduling the project continuously minimises construction duration.
“We’ll be excavating a pit about 25 metres long by five metres wide and six metres deep to reveal the 15 metres of sewer main we need to remove and replace.
“We will reline others in the vicinity, too.
“The construction work will be noisy so, wherever possible, we’ll schedule the noisiest activities during the day.
“In the meantime, please follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.”
Additionally, Donald Street, west of Beaumont Street, will be reduced to one westbound lane between Beaumont and Swan streets.
For light vehicles, diversions and detours are in place via Lawson and Cleary streets, as well as Beaumont and Samdon streets.
