A woman is in a critical condition and a man has been arrested following an alleged domestic-related stabbing in Jesmond yesterday.
At about 6.30pm (Friday 9 April), emergency services were called to an address at William Street after they received reports of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, officers attached to Newcastle City Police District located a 34-year-old woman with a serious stab wound to her neck.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman at the scene, before she was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
Detectives established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the incident.
A short time later, a 38-year-old man – who is known to the woman – was arrested at the scene.
He was taken to Newcastle Police Station, where he is assisting police with their investigations.
Inquiries are continuing.
Earlier: Emergency services attend alleged stabbing at Jesmond
Emergency services were called to the scene of a suspected stabbing at William Street in Jesmond tonight (Friday 9 April).
A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said the incident occurred at about 6.30pm.
According to their statement paramedics were called to an address in Jesmond and when they arrived there were two patients, a man and woman, who needed treatment.
The spokesperson added the woman had been taken to John Hunter Hospital and was treated for multiple stab wounds.
Police remain at the scene.
