A manhunt is underway following the alleged sexual assault of an elderly woman near Maitland on Monday night.
Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were told a female, in her 80s, was walking in Brooklyn Park – between Kilkenny Circuit and Chelmsford Drive at Ashtonfield – about 7.20pm on 17 November.
It’s claimed she was knocked to the ground by a male who attempted to sexually assault her.
After he left the park, the woman – taken to hospital for treatment – contacted a family member who alerted police.
Local detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad, have now started inquiries into the incident under Strike Force Bosgar.
They’ve also released a description of a teenage boy they believe may be able to assist them.
He’s understood to be aged mid-to-late teens, with a dark complexion, wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts.
He left the scene on a push scooter.
Anyone with information about the incident, who may have been in the vicinity of Brooklyn Park between 7pm and 8pm or possess CCTV or dashcam vision to assist police is urged to contact Maitland Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
