Drivers urged to be patient around COVID-19 testing sites

SHARE

Hunter drivers have been urged to remain vigilant while travelling as the region contends with an increased demand for COVID-19 testing across Newcastle, Maitland, Lake Macquarie and the surrounding areas.

Police say testing clinics at East Maitland on Brisbane Street and Telarah on Green Street, are currently experiencing a high volume of traffic while sites in other suburbs are also inundated with people seeking a test.

To avoid increased delays, the community are encouraged to utilise other testing clinics, including Maitland Showground on Bloomfield Street and Woodberry on Kookaburra Parade.

Officers are urging drivers to obey the road rules and assess the delays appropriately.

It comes as the Hunter New England Local Health District reported 424 new COVID-19 cases overnight after a number of venues in Newcastle were visited by a positive infection.

There are several coronavirus testing clinics and locations across Newcastle and Hunter region. To find a list of all open centres, visit https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Pages/clinics.aspx
