A 66-year-old man has been charged following a crash, which claimed a woman’s life, in Port Stephens earlier this year.
Emergency services were called to Nelson Bay Road, Salamander Bay, about 7.25pm on Saturday 17 January after receiving reports of a two-vehicle accident.
Sadly, the driver of a Toyota Rav4 – a 77-year-old female – died at the scene.
Her passengers – two men aged 78 and 79, and a 76-year-old woman – received treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics.
They were then taken to John Hunter Hospital, all in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, the driver and passenger of a Subaru Forester – a 66-year-old man and 60-year-old woman – were also treated and taken to the same hospital.
Officers attached to Port Stephens Hunter Police District and the Crash Investigation Unit began an investigation.
And, following inquiries, the driver of the Subaru was arrested at Nelson Bay Police Station on Thursday 2 April.
The 66-year-old was charged with 13 offences, including dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous; negligent driving (occasioning death); three counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous; three counts of negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm); four counts of cause bodily harm by misconduct; in charge of motor vehicle; and not keep left of dividing line-not class B/C vehicle.
After being granted conditional bail, he’ll front Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 1 June.
His licence was also suspended.
