Police have charged a man for allegedly failing to stop after a crash, which claimed the life of a cyclist in Lake Macquarie at the weekend.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Awabakal Drive, Nords Wharf, about 11am on Sunday 14 December.
Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District received information a cyclist and an SUV had collided.
The rider – a 42-year-old male – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
Sadly, he passed away from his injuries about 9.50am on Monday 15 December.
It’s understood the vehicle, a Toyota FJ Cruiser, allegedly failed to stop after the collision.
Following extensive inquiries from the Crash Investigation Unit, officers attended an address on Rusty Lane, Branxton.
There, a Toyota FJ Cruiser was seized for forensic examination.
A 40-year-old man was arrested at the location, taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous and negligent driving (occasioning death).
After being granted conditional bail, he’ll appear before Belmont Local Court on Wednesday 14 January.
