A man, who was almost six times over the legal limit, will face court this weekend for high-range drink driving in Nelson Bay.

Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were patrolling Government Road after 8.20pm on Friday 2 January when they noticed a black hatchback being driven in a dangerous manner.

A short time later, they successfully stopped the vehicle on Magnus Street in Nelson Bay.

The driver – a 33-year-old male – was subjected to a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.

After being arrested, he was taken to Nelson Bay Police Station for a secondary analysis.

He then registered a reading of 0.280.

The man was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous; drive with high-range PCA and illicit drug; and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He was also conveyed to Raymond Terrace Police Station and refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 2 on Saturday 3 January.
