Dressed for Success fundraiser to bring fashion with a cause

SHARE

Its organisers call it a fashion frenzy because all items on display start at just $5 and shoppers are encouraged to fill up a bag.

Often big-name brands sit alongside jewellery, accessories and shoes all at exceptionally cheap prices.

They are pre-loved and new, with clothing sized from six-to-16.

But, this sale is about more than bagging a bargain.

Fashion Frenzy Newcastle-Hunter allows women to face their job search with confidence.

By supporting the sale, women in need are treated to the clothing and tools to help them enter or re-enter the workforce.

Sometimes it’s after escaping a domestic violence situation and starting again, other times it’s on release from prison when a woman needs the confidence to start her life afresh.

Dressed for Success is a NSW registered charity that aims to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

In a nutshell it improves the employability of disadvantaged women in NSW.

This is achieved by providing free of charge, professional clothing, a network of support, coaching and career development tools to help women achieve self-sufficiency.

The charity also welcomes transgender women and non-binary people comfortable in women’s spaces.

The Dressed for Success head office is located in Marrickville, with showrooms in Broadmeadow and Port Kembla.

Aside from styling and clothing, DFS offers a Career Support Program, resume writing skills, interview skills, workshops to improve employability, and workshops to improve self-confidence.

The DFS Fashion Frenzy sale will take place at the Newcastle-Hunter Showroom, 116A Belford Street, Broadmeadow, on Saturday 27 May from 9.30am to noon.

The first session from 9.30am to 10.30am has a $10 entry fee and limited to 50 tickets.

Entry to session two, between 10.45am and noon, is free.

Tickets are available online.

This year’s event will also include the sale of plants, including succulent bowls, handmade/grown by DFS volunteers, with 100% of funds raised going towards keeping the charity’s services going.
