Damage assessments of lands and homes in flood-affected communities are now being carried out by the NSW State Emergency Service (SES).

And, it’s understood almost 10,000 properties need to be evaluated before the clean-up can begin.

“As the river levels start to subside, NSW SES members and our partner agencies have begun the task of assessing those places, which have been flood-affected,” NSW SES Acting Assistant Commissioner Allison Flaxman said.

“Please allow them to occur before you begin to washout your property.

“It’s important we evaluate the extent of damage to ensure your premises is safe to return to.”

In response to the severe flooding, the NSW SES has continued to perform resupply operations of essential foods and medications to stranded residents, allowing access to critical supplies during this challenging period.  

“We’ve undertaken 200 requests in the past two days,” Ms Flaxman said.

“However, there are still many communities that remain isolated, with 50,000 people estimated to be impacted. 

“If you are isolated and in need of urgent resupply for items such as food and medication or transport to medical appointments, phone the NSW SES on 132 500 for a request.”

NSW SES teams have also responded to 7,269 incidents, including 774 flood rescues, primarily in the Mid-North Coast and Hunter regions.

Affected residents are urged to remain vigilant, too, and to not enter flood waters, which continue to pose risks.
