Police are on the hunt for a motorist, who left a cyclist in a critical condition, at Nords Wharf on Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Awabakal Drive just after 11am on 14 December following reports of a crash.
Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District found a bike rider and a car had collided.
The cyclist – a man aged in his 40s – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
It’s understood the vehicle – believed to be a black Toyota SUV – failed to stop after the accident.
Police have started an investigation to locate the SUV and determine the circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, traffic is significantly affected along the Pacific Highway in both directions.
Officers are encouraging road-users to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
Lake Macquarie Police District is urging anyone with information about the incident or has dashcam footage to contact Belmont Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
