Firefighters from Muswellbrook have extinguished a suburban garage fire overnight.

At about 2.15am the Fire and Rescue NSW crew arrived at Aberdeen Street to find a six by six-metre garage alight.

Firefighters attacked the blaze as it threatened to spread to a neighbouring home and doused the flames 90 minutes later.

Vehicles inside the double garage were destroyed.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Superintendent Scott Dodson said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
