Crash Investigation Unit on scene at Lenaghan fatality


LATEST: A driver has died following a crash on the M1 Pacific Motorway today.

About 10.35am on Monday 27 March, emergency services were called to Lenaghan after reports of a single-vehicle crash.

At the scene, officers from Newcastle City Police District were told a vehicle had rolled before hitting a tree.

The driver was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

But, tragically, she died at the scene.

The driver is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be a woman aged in her 20s.

Officers have started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

All lanes of the M1 have now reopened and traffic is flowing freely.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

EARLIER: Hunter motorists are being advised to avoid the M1 Pacific Motorway following a fatal crash at Lenaghan on Monday.

It is believed a driver died about 10.40am on 27 March after a car rolled and hit a tree.

The tragic accident also forced the closure of the southbound lanes.

Traffic is still being diverted via John Renshaw Drive and the Hunter Expressway.

Emergency services, as well as the Crash Investigation Unit, remain at the scene.

“We’re asking drivers to allow extra travel time as traffic is heavy,” a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.

“Or, use an alternative route if possible.”
