COVID-19 testing sites to open at Muswellbrook, Raymond Terrace

SHARE

After a confirmed case of COVID-19 was infectious in the Muswellbrook community, Medtech Services and 4Cyte Pathology are opening a new testing clinic at the showground.

From tomorrow (Friday 10 September) locals are encouraged to attend the drive-thru site to ensure that any cases of coronavirus will be detected.

“The Upper Hunter has been relatively spared in the latest COVID surge in the Hunter New England region but unfortunately this has all changed overnight,” Hunter New England Local Health District’s Dr David Durrheim said during an update yesterday.

“A person who’s worked at an Upper Hunter mine has been diagnosed with COVID and was infectious not only at the mine but also in the community and we really are concerned that there are going to be a number of venues where people have been potentially exposed.

“The response that is necessary in the Upper Hunter, if we don’t want to see further spread of the virus, is to make sure that we don’t ignore even the most trivial of symptoms.

“Any runny nose, any sore throat, any cough, shortness of breath, fever, change in taste or smell, please immediately go and get tested and isolate and wait for a negative result.

“This way we can avoid the Upper Hunter becoming a real hotspot of transmission.”

The new testing clinic can be attended by anyone in the region, no appointment or referral is necessary.

Entry to the Muswellbrook Showground clinic will be via Maitland Street, it will be open from 7.30am to 3pm on Friday 10 September until Tuesday 14 September.

Another new testing site has also opened in Port Stephens at Raymond Terrace.

Located at the Kings Park Sports Ground carpark on the corner of Seaham and Newline roads, like the Muswellbrook site, it will be open to anyone of all ages with no appointment required.

From today, people can receive a test seven days week with the operating hours being 7.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 1pm on Saturdays and 8am to 12pm on Sundays.
