UPDATE: COVID-19 exposure sites in the Hunter

The Hunter region is on high alert after Target at Glendale and two schools in the region have been identified as venues of concern.

For the latest:

Newcastle state MP Tim Crakanthorp and Wallsend state MP Sonia Hornery, along with other local politicians, raised the alarm on social media on Thursday morning.

“Anyone who attended [Glendale Target] on Sunday 1 August between 8.30am and 1.30pm needs to urgently present for COVID-19 testing,” Mr Crakanthorp said.

“They should self-isolate from their household, and remain in self-isolation until further direction is received from NSW Health regarding classification as close or casual contacts.”

Morisset High School is also closed today after a positive case of COVID-19 had been detected. It will be deep cleaned.

“Contract tracers are working to determine any other venues and if people will be classified as a close or casual contact,” Ms Hornery said.

“Please get tested if you have the mildest of symptoms.”

Maitland Christian School has also sent out an email alerting parents to two positive COVID-19 cases at the school.

“Please collect your children immediately – even if you are an essential worker,” the email read.

It comes after COVID-19 fragments were found in recent samples from three of the region’s sewage treatment plants.

NSW Health confirmed on Wednesday 4 August that traces of coronavirus had been found at waste facilities at Shortland, Belmont and Burwood Beach.

There are more than 410 testing clinics open across NSW. For a complete list and booking details, please visit: health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Pages/clinics.aspx
