COVID-19 cases continue to ease in HNELHD

SHARE

It appears COVID-19 case numbers are beginning to ease in the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) after 30 new infections were detected overnight.

It comes after 33 were reported on Sunday 31 October.

However, despite this drop, the district was still the biggest contributor to the state’s 135 infections.

The Newcastle LGA recorded nine cases in Carrington (five), Fletcher, Hamilton South, Jesmond and Mayfield.

Lake Macquarie was not far behind with eight infections across Tingira Heights (two), Warners Bay (two), Belmont North, Charlestown, Cooranbong and Morisset.

Cases in Cessnock (two), Bellbird Heights and Kearsley have added four to the Cessnock LGAs total while Maitland found two in Luskintyre and Chisholm.

The Dungog and Port Stephens LGAs both detected one case in Hilldale and Raymond Terrace.

Discoveries in the Mid Coast LGA (four) and Tamworth make up the remaining infections.

Seven of the cases are linked and 20 were infectious in the community.

HNELHD continues to urge the region to come forward for testing and vaccination.

NSW as a whole reported 135 new cases and four deaths overnight.

Two people, a man in his 70s and a woman aged 101 acquired their infections at the Mercy Place aged care facility in Albury. They were both fully vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.

Another man in his 60s died at Concord Hospital. He was not vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.

A woman in her 60s from south east Sydney died at Prince of Wales Hospital. She was also not vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.

There are currently 349 people admitted to hospital, with 77 people in intensive care, 33 of whom require ventilation.

Across the state to 11:59pm on Saturday 30 October, 93.6% of people aged 16 and over had received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 87.7% were fully vaccinated.

If you need to get tested for COVID-19 there are more than 400 clinics open across NSW.
