COVID-19 case numbers took a dramatic dip in the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD), with 39 infections detected overnight.

The latest figure takes the total tally in the current outbreak to 3,809, with 888 still active.

It was exceptionally good news for residents in the Greater Hunter component of the HNELHD, with just 13 recorded.

Five were uncovered in the Newcastle LGA, including three at Wickham, as well as Maryland and Warabrook.

The Port Stephens LGA dropped to four throughout Heatherbrae and Raymond Terrace.

The Lake Macquarie LGA registered two, at Cameron Park and Windale, with one each in the Cessnock (Greta) and Dungog LGAs (Clarence Town).

The remaining HNELHD cases appeared in the Mid-Coast LGA (seven), Inverell LGA (seven), Moree Plains LGA (five), Tamworth LGA (five) and Armidale Regional LGA (two).

Twenty-nine are linked, 21 were infectious in the community and three remain under investigation.

Meanwhile, NSW recorded 250 locally-acquired infections as of 8pm on Friday 12 November.

It brings the state-wide amount since the beginning of the pandemic to 78,011.

There are currently 228 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 32 people in intensive care, 16 of whom require ventilation.

NSW Health’s Dr Jeremy McAnulty said now the state had passed the 90% double-dose vaccination milestone, it was important for anyone aged 18 and older who has been vaccinated for six months to seek out a booster shot.

“While the risk of infection and disease is much higher in unvaccinated people, we do sometimes see outbreaks occurring among vaccinated people particularly in indoor settings like gyms, bars and pubs,” he explained.

“Early testing, if you have the symptoms, is really critical.”

If you need to get tested for COVID-19 there are more than 400 clinics open across NSW.
