COVID-19 case causes an influx in testing

SHARE

Hunter New England Health District’s phone lines and testing sites have experienced an influx in enquiries and testing today following the announcement of a positive COVID-19 case in Port Stephens yesterday.

There is currently an estimated three-hour wait for testing and long queues at John Hunter Hospital.

The public have been asked to be patient and kind to staff.

It comes after Hunter New England Health urged anyone who visited Windsor Castle Hotel in East Maitland between 6pm and 8pm on Monday 13 July or Salamander Bay Shopping Centre on Wednesday 15 July to watch for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested should any respiratory symptoms or fever occur.

The warning was issued following the confirmation of the COVID-19 case in Port Stephens.

The new case is a man in his 60s, who is now in isolation. The source of infection was a visitor from Sydney.

Hunter New England Health states it is essential people follow directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine and maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing of 1.5 metres, cough or sneeze into their elbow, and regularly wash their hands.

To find your nearest testing site, visit the NSW Health website.
