Plans are afoot to triple the size of one of the Lower Hunter’s most popular recreational areas, Maitland Park Playspace.
Now, council is inviting residents to have their say on the proposal.
Maitland City has endorsed an initial concept strategy to develop a larger, fit-for-purpose playspace that’s more inclusive, accessible and creative.
The precinct will expand from 0.2 to 0.6 hectares (1.5 acres) and feature new elements such as a splash and water play zone, more shade, all-abilities equipment and additional parking.
“The facility will be a significant improvement on the existing playground,” Maitland City mayor Philip Penfold said.
“It’s based on previous community feedback about playgrounds in the LGA.
“Not only is it substantially larger than the current site, it’ll also boast plenty of elements for all ages and abilities, including nature and water play areas, as well as a kids’ bike spot.
“So, we’d like to hear what residents think, to help us shape the final blueprints for this project.”
While unfunded at this stage, Maitland City Council is progressing the design phase to ensure it’s ready for future opportunities.
The community can provide feedback on the initial plan via the online survey until Sunday 8 December or visit Maitland Park Playspace for a pop-up session from 10am on Saturday 23 November.
