Could your father be Sports Dad of the Year?

SHARE

If you know or have a father that is working hard within the sporting community, Phillips is encouraging you to nominate them for their Sports Dad of the Year award.

Each year the honour recognises the contributions and positive impact that Australian dads have made to their families and community both on and off the sporting field.

You’ll need to get in quick though, nominations close on Sunday.

Founder of the award Paul Masluk said it was more important than ever before to acknowledge those unsung dads who have spent countless hours boosting morale and keeping team spirit alive.

“It’s been a difficult couple of years with community sport placed temporarily on hold throughout the pandemic, sometimes affecting the whole season,” he said.

“This has impacted thousands of local sporting clubs and millions of kids dedicated to playing their chosen sport, so it’s never been more important to recognise the resilient efforts of our sporting dads who’ve kept their team spirit alive.”

Last year’s winner was the President of Rathmines’ Westlake Wildcats Football Club. Father of four Terry Williams was nominated by his very proud daughter.

“Dad has spent a lifetime serving the community,” Nikki said.

“Firstly, as a police officer for decades and now as the president of the local football club. He never wants recognition and he hates the limelight, but I think he deserves it.

“He just quietly goes about his business and probably wouldn’t even recognise the difference he’s made to people, both in the community and at the club.

“Dad commits hours and hours every week to ensuring the club is a great place to be and operates smoothly for all the kids and volunteers.

“It’s volunteers like dad who make it possible for kids to be involved in sports they love, stay healthy and enjoy being a part of a team.”

The competition is free to enter via sportsdads.com.au/community. Applications must include 100 words on why they should win.

Nominations close on Sunday 22 August.

The winner will be notified just before Father’s Day (5 September) with a prize pack including a Philips male grooming pack valued at over $1,000, as well as a $5,000 Rebel Sports voucher to purchase new clothing or sporting equipment for the community sports club of choice.
