With temperatures predicted to hit the mid-30s, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) crews will feel the heat on several sites throughout the Hunter this week.
From Monday 4 November, construction continues on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace, as well as the Hexham Straight Widening project, while some teams are also heading to Warners Bay.
To minimise the impact to motorists at Tarro, work’s slated for the following times and locations:
- From 7pm to 5am on Tuesday 5, Wednesday 6 and Friday 8 November, the eastbound off-ramp from the New England Highway to Anderson Drive will be closed with a detour in place via New England Highway/Maitland Road
- From 7pm to 5am on Tuesday 5, Wednesday 6 and Friday 8 November, the John Renshaw Drive slip lane (westbound from New England Highway) will be closed with a detour in place via Weakleys Drive to John Renshaw Drive and the M1 Motorway (This detour is unsuitable for vehicles operating on the SPV Level 6, SPV Level 4 & 12t/ axle & SPV Level networks, while over-size over-mass (OSOM) and special purpose vehicles will be escorted through the closure)
Major construction will carry on across the remainder of the project from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday; from 8am to 5pm Saturday; as well as 7pm to 5am Monday to Friday nights.
It’ll require lane closures with intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h at the following times and locations:
From 7pm to 5am, Monday 4 November to Friday 8 November:
- M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill
- John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield
- New England Highway at Tarro
- Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae
- Old Punt Road near Pacific Highway at Tomago
From 7am to 5pm, Monday 4 November to Friday 8 November:
- Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill
- Old Punt Road near Pacific Highway at Tomago
- New England Highway Eastbound at Tarro
Changed overnight traffic conditions are scheduled for Maitland Road at Hexham, too.
Work will take place from now until Thursday 7 November between 7pm and 5am.
Contraflow arrangements are planned for inbound and outbound traffic on Maitland Road between Old Maitland Road (Sandgate) and Shamrock Street (Hexham).
OSOM operations with a ground contact wider than 3.2m or overall width greater than 4.5m can contact the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 1800 515 141.
Significant delays will occur if they fail to do so.
Meanwhile, TfNSW is carrying out work on The Esplanade at Warners Bay, which includes cleaning and general routine bridge maintenance over North Creek between Seaman Avenue and Lake Street.
It begins from 4 November and will take place overnight from 7pm to 5am, from Mondays to Thursdays, over the next four weeks, weather permitting.
“There’ll be lane closures with stop/slow traffic arrangements and a 40km/h speed reduction for the safety of workers and motorists,” a TfNSW spokesperson said.
“Road-users should allow for an additional five minutes of travel time.
“OSOM vehicles travelling under a permit will not be impacted during this work as operators will be guided through the area as required.
“Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.”
