Conference to attract sharp minds

Advances in financial technology and Facebook and the importance of cyber security are among the topics that will be covered at an innovative conference in Newcastle next week.

The digital and technology collaboration, called NewTech 2019, is set to attract some of the industry’s sharpest minds to Novotel Newcastle Beach on Friday 6 September.

The conference has been supported by Newcastle council and endorsed by lord mayor Nuatali Nelmes.

“The innovation that is happening in Newcastle at the moment is extraordinary and the council’s Smart City Strategy, which aims to maximise opportunities in technology, manufacturing, the digital economy and creative industries, is really taking shape,” Novotel Newcastle Beach general manager, Edmond Power, said.

“Digital and technology, whether we acknowledge it or not, shapes almost every iteration of our professional and personal lives.”

Keynote speakers will include the likes of the owner and director of OAS Technology Group, Craig Browning, who will touch on cyber security and how threats have changed over the last decade, as well as D-EDGE representative Duncan Waterman.

Mr Waterman will address how artificial intelligence, voice recognition, voice and augmented reality will play a role in the future of travel distribution.

An after-dark networking cocktail event at the iconic Fort Scratchley will round out the day’s theme – ‘We live in the present, with an eye to the future, whilst celebrating the past.’
