Community to shape future of Reay Park

SHARE

A disused tennis court in Reay Park, Dudley is set to receive a makeover, with Lake Macquarie City Council asking the community what type of facility they want at the site.

Located on Ocean Street in the historic seaside suburb, the site is also home to a number of storage buildings, a fenced playground, picnic shelter, an amenities building and sports field.

Community Asset Management Coordinator Susan Stewart said the council would be guided by the community to provide a facility that would serve the area best.

“I encourage residents to participate in our online forum and tell us what they want to see,” she said.

“Whether it’s a multiuse court or a pump track for young cyclists, we will be listening intently to all feedback before we decide what we build.”

The tennis court and amenities upgrade will be funded through the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Grant, with Reay Park receiving $368,940.

Shortland Federal MP Pat Conroy said this was a great opportunity for residents to have a say about community infrastructure in Reay Park.

“There are a number of different options for this upgrade, and I look forward to hearing the ideas and suggestions from the Lake Macquarie community,” he said.

The tennis court overhaul is the first stage of upgrades to Reay Park, with improvements to the playground planned in future years.

“Parks are an important asset to each suburb in Lake Mac and we want to build something that is enjoyed by the community,” Ms Stewart added.

Consultation for Reay Park will be open until September 24. To have your say go to the council’s website.
