Port Stephens Council will host a series of community support hubs to help residents navigate recovery following the recent natural disaster.
The pop-ups are designed to give people a space to access practical assistance, ask questions, share their experiences and find the information they need to get back on their feet.
The first will be operational at the Tanilba Bay Shopping Centre near Coles on Friday 30 May from 10am until noon.
Another’s slated for Seaham, near the Community Hall, on Sunday 1 June between 9am and 11am, with a third taking place close to the Hinton Pub at the same time.
Mayor Leah Anderson said the hubs were an important part of council’s ongoing recovery efforts.
“We know many residents in our community are still feeling the impacts of the disaster,” she stated.
“Whether it’s dealing with property damage, lost items or just needing someone to talk to.
“Our community support hubs bring council staff and services directly to the people who need them.
“Whether you require help lodging a request with council, understanding where to access assistance or how to dispose of flood-affected waste, we’re here for you.”
At each hub, Port Stephens Council personnel will connect locals to information on disaster recovery support, provide guidance on financial needs and offer advice on waste management and clean-up options.
“Importantly, they’re a space for residents to share their stories and touch base with others in their community who may be going through similar experiences,” Cr Anderson added.
“Sometimes just being heard can make a big difference.
“We want people to know they’re not alone in this.”
