Community groups invited to put forward ideas

Community groups across Singleton are being encouraged to put forward projects for consideration for inclusion in council’s applications under round eight of the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions program.

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro officially announced applications were open for funding at a special event at Singleton Rugby Club last week, with $8,005,210 on offer for the Singleton LGA – almost twice as much that was available previously.

Singleton mayor Sue Moore said council staff had been working with the community and Regional NSW staff to develop a list of projects to meet the criteria for Resources for Regions for future rounds.

“We want to hear from organisations for their suggestions for infrastructure initiatives worth more than $250,000 and community programs worth more than $100,000,” she stated.

A similar process was executed for round seven, in which the Singleton LGA received $4,571,281 for 15 community infrastructure projects and programs.

“We strongly advocated for the opportunities that are now available to us through the Resources for Regions program,” Cr Moore said.

“Thanks to Mr Barilaro, we are now at the point where we can work together to deliver outcomes to benefit our entire community that may otherwise never have been possible.

“We know there are community organisations and groups that are dreaming of new infrastructure or have a great idea for a program that would make a difference to the people of Singleton.

“Those are the people we want to hear from.

“But, we have to act quickly for round eight.”

Applications close on Monday 12 July.

Anyone with an idea or suggestion can contact executive manager projects Mark Ihlein in the first instance and submit an Expression of Interest by 4 June.

“Council will then consider the suggestions we receive and may develop some of those ideas further to be included in our application,” Cr moore said.

“We’re also happy to hear from community groups who may not be ready to proceed right now, but may have suggestions for future rounds of the program.”
