The founder of the We Love Lambton Pool Alliance has been recognised as the 2024 Wallsend Local Woman of the Year.
Staunch community advocate Anna Dawson-Glasby received the accolade from Wallsend MP Sonia Honery as part of the annual IWD celebrations.
After deciding “enough is enough” when continuously witnessing the neglect of her favourite swimming spot, the regular pool-user established the We Love Lambton Pool Facebook group.
It then quickly grew to almost 1,000 members.
Following this success, Ms Dawson-Glasby formally coordinated the We Love Lambton Pool Alliance as a community organisation to encourage more investment, care and attention for the vital facility.
“With Anna’s strong advocacy, we have seen a new grandstand built, minor upgrades and a promise from City of Newcastle for future investment at Lambton Pool,” Ms Hornery said.
“She’s certainly a worthy recipient.
“The Local Woman of the Year Awards are an important way for the NSW Government to recognise those who have made an important difference in our communities in the past year.”
Ms Hornery praised Ms Dawson-Glasby for her selfless efforts.
“Anna cares for her community and has stepped up to ensure that this valuable asset, enjoyed by all, has a strong voice behind it,” she said.
“She’s also committed to holding all elected representatives to account, including myself, to ensure that our valued community resources are looked after to the highest standards.
“It’s been a pleasure getting to know Anna and look forward to working with her to improve our community further in the future.”
