Coalfields T20 double-header action affected by rain

SHARE

Double-headers scheduled for all Tiers of the Coalfields Cup T20 competition were widely-affected by rain at the weekend.

Defending premiers PCH/Glendon finished top of the table by defeating Creeks by 50 runs in the round four match at Carmichael Park No. 2.

Gleights posted 6-156 batting first, with Kyle Bailey (54) leading the way with a well-made half century.

Skipper Jackson Cox (30), Karl Bowd (26) and Anthony Bailey (15no) were all productive while, for Creeks, Adam Bartholomew (2-32 off 4) and skipper Nathan Hudson (2-20 off 4) took a brace of wickets each.

The latter was all out for 106 in reply, with Hudson completing a fine all-round match with 27.

Chad Solman (22) and Daniel Wojcikewycz (14) were the other batsmen to make a start.

Hayden Moorcroft (3-23 off 4) and Barton Jones (3-21 off 4) kept a lid on things for PCH/Glendon.

Just up on top of the hill at Carmichael 1, Piranhas/Bellbird snuck home in a tight one by five runs over Greta-Branxton.

The home side posted 154 after being bowled out in the penultimate over.

Former skipper Joey Main was unlucky not to post a century when he holed out for 94 opening the batting in an entertaining innings in which he faced just 50 balls.

Partner Matt Hopley made 24, with Ben Fairlie (15) the other one to make an impression.

Will Regan bowled beautifully for Greta-Branxton with 4-3 off 2.5, with Connor Thomson (3-19 off 4) and Jamie Moore (2-29 off 4) supporting well.

The Blues looked on track to take the match on the back of return-to-form half centuries by Thomson (54) and skipper Joey Butler (53).

However, their departures saw the Bellfish close out the match with some tight bowling and fielding.

Jamie Moore was the other Blues batsman in double figures with 18.

Bellfish new-baller Mark White’s hand grenades proved difficult to handle, bagging 3-10 off his four overs.

Main completed an excellent all-round game with 2-21 off four.

The fixture between Valley/JPC and Wine Country at Allandale was abandoned.

Round five of matches started after a short interval at Carmichael Park, with Piranhas/Bellbird at 0-12 chasing PCH/Glendon’s total of 8-154 when play was abandoned due to rain.

For Gleights, it was the Bailey connection of Cooper (52) and Anthony (38no) who were the main contributors, while for the Bellfish Zane White (2-27 off 4), Ben Fairlie (2-24 off 4) and Joey Main (2-8 off 2) shared the wickets.

Valley/JPC booked a spot in the semi-final with a 117-run thrashing of Greta-Branxton at Carmichael 2 to put them out of the premiership race.

Fresh off the abandonment earlier in the day at Allandale, Valley/JPC amassed 6-235 from its 20 overs after being sent into bat.

In-form all-rounder Tristan Muir proved his half century last week was no fluke.

He took full toll of the short boundary in the second half of the innings to blast 89 from just 33 balls in an innings that included an incredible eleven maximums.

Most other batsmen also cashed in with Dan Storey unhampered by his steel capped boot with 34, while Isaac Barry (33), Ross Parker (29) and skipper Alex Stafa (28) contributed to the healthy total.

David Condran took 2-44 off four in a trying day for the Greta-Branxton bowlers.

The Blues got off to a bit of a flyer in reply.

But, the run out of skipper Butler (18) in the most unfortunate way pretty much summed up their day, and they were eventually all out for 118.

Connor Thomson (30), Reuben Andrews (22) and Chris Murray (16) were among their best, however the mammoth task was always going to be difficult to accomplish.

Brandon Carman was the pick of the Valley/JPC attack with 4-24 off 4.

Muir could do no wrong in a memorable day with 3-15 off 3.3, with Siaan Carman bowling tidily in her top grade debut with 1-13 off 3.

The Wine Country v Creeks match scheduled for Allandale was also abandoned.
