Newcastle Permanent’s Christmas Under the Stars is returning to King Edward Park on Saturday 2 December.
The annual event, that draws hundreds to the grassed area of one of the city’s most popular parks, will once again be packed with activities to help families celebrate the festive season.
The fun is set to kick off at 5pm, with Christmas carols performed by local talents Elle Flanagan, Star Struck, Felix Quinn Band and The Vanguard Players.
Then, as the sun goes down, kids can munch on their free popcorn while enjoying the PG-rated Jim Carey 2000 hit How the Grinch Stole Christmas on the big screen.
Bring along a blanket and snacks or enjoy the many delights available at a selection of food trucks serving up delicious local fare.
Rumour has it even Santa Claus is set to make an appearance at the popular free event.
Newcastle Permanent chief distribution officer Paul Juergens said the customer-owned institution was proud to continue this wonderful Newcastle tradition.
“Christmas Under the Stars is one of the best evenings on the calendar for the whole Hunter,” he said.
“A beautiful summer evening spent singing along to songs we all love, performed by amazing local artists, before kicking back and sharing a laugh while watching a hilarious Christmas movie – this is about as good as a night out with friends and family gets.
“How the Grinch Stole Christmas is such a great fit for Christmas Under the Stars.
“I’m sure grandparents will remember reading the original Dr Seuss book, plenty of parents probably saw this film in the cinema, and now younger members of the community get the chance to see it on the big screen for the first time.”
A free shuttle bus service will also be available from Bar Beach and Bolton Street car parks to and from the event.
The date, 2 December, marks the start of the Newcastle Permanent Cinema Under the Stars tour, which will travel to 11 towns across regional NSW.
