Christmas feature 2: 2021

SHARE

It has been a challenging year for everyone in the Hunter. In the lead up to Christmas support small and local businesses.

Be the kind, the Newy kind

It has been a challenging year for both local businesses and our general community in Newcastle. To celebrate Christmas, you’re invited to download the Lean in Newy app to experience the city, to buy local, to be sustainable and to give back to the community and receive rewards for your efforts.

Through the app, you can participate in a series of purpose-built challenges aimed at meeting the local needs of our community organisations this Christmas. You’ll be rewarded with points that can be redeemed for discounts from local businesses. Available to all residents living in the City of Newcastle and surrounding LGAs, including Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland and Cessnock.

Some example challenges in the app include donating gifts for specific communities, volunteering to serve Christmas dinner at the Foreshore for our rough sleepers, or donating non-perishable items – plus loads of other fun challenges!

How to support local

  • Download the Lean In Newy app and activate your free online account to get started.
  • Use your skills and time to help in your community by participating in challenges.
  • Earn rewards for your efforts. Each challenge completed will earn you points to be redeemed for discounts or benefits at a selection of local businesses.
  • Redeem your rewards through discounts at local businesses. Support our community and your favourite Newy businesses every time you redeem and shop.

To assist local businesses, City of Newcastle will pay for the value of the redeemed discount to the business during the COVID-19 recovery phase.
