‘Check ahead’: Easter warning from Forestry Corporation

SHARE

Check ahead before starting your State forest Easter trip – that’s the message from the Forestry Corporation of NSW after closures are expected to hamper best-laid plans.

As severe weather events batter many areas of the state, Forestry Corporation’s manager of tourism and partnerships, Louise Faulkner expects many areas to be subject to closures.

“There are many State forests and sites open across NSW for visitors to discover and explore,” she said.

“However, with numerous forests affected by severe weather damage, particularly in the mid and north coast areas where many forests remain closed due to landslips and washed out roads or bridges, please check our website and plan ahead to avoid disappointment at your intended forest destination.”

Visitors are reminded to remain safe and respectful when exploring the great outdoors.

“Where possible have a great time in our State forests this Easter break, but we ask visitors to respect the rules and each other,” Ms Faulkner said.

“This includes observing fire bans, fully extinguishing your campfire, avoiding excessive noise and considering your fellow campers.

“There is no booking system so we ask everyone to be courteous and work together with your fellow visitors to share the campgrounds available. Of course, also be mindful of COVID health guidelines and social distancing.”

The warning comes after NSW Police confirmed a family of five, all tourists from the UK, were bushwalking at Wentworth Falls when four of them were crushed by falling rocks earlier this week.

The Blue Mountains National Park, where the incident took place, has since been closed.

State forests are similar to National Parks but generally smaller.

NSW has more than 900 national parks and reserves.
