A Newcastle man has been charged after setting alight another male during a vicious attack in Newcastle this week.
Emergency services were called to McDonald’s in King Street about 3.20am on Thursday 28 September.
It followed reports a man suffered serious burns to his body.
Investigations confirmed to officers from Newcastle City Police District that the 23-year-old was assaulted and then set on fire.
He was taken to John Hunter Hospital before being transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Detectives probed into the targeted attack under Strike Force Droney.
As part of inquiries, a 20-year-old man was arrested after attending Raymond Terrace Police Station about 5pm on Friday 29 September.
He was charged with throw/lay down explosive etc with intent to maim/do grievous bodily harm and cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.
The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Saturday 30 September.
