Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions from this week to continue construction on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.
From the night of Wednesday 3 December, westbound lanes of the New England Highway between Tarro and Beresfield will be permanently diverted onto a new section of road.
Major work resumes across the project from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 8am to 5pm on Saturday; and from 7pm to 5am Monday to Friday.
It’ll also require lane closures with intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h at the following locations and times:
From 7pm to 5am, on the nights of Monday 1 December until Friday 6 December
- M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill
- John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield
- New England Highway at Tarro
- Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae
From 7am to 5pm, Monday 1 December until Friday 6 December
- Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill
- Old Punt Road near Pacific Highway at Tomago
- New England Highway Eastbound at Tarro
Hexham Straight Widening project
Construction is progressing on the Hexham Straight Widening project this week, too.
It means:
- Traffic will be in a contraflow arrangement on the southbound lanes of Maitland Road and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place from Newcastle Inner City Bypass to Sparke Street on Tuesday 2 December
- Traffic will be in a contraflow arrangement on the southbound lanes of Maitland Road and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place from Newcastle Inner City Bypass to Shamrock Street on Thursday 4 December
- On Tuesday 2 December and Thursday 4 December, the right-hand turn lane into Newcastle Inner City Bypass will be temporarily restricted. Vehicles travelling southbound will need to detour 800m south via Sandgate Road
- Lane closures and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place on both the northbound and southbound lanes of Maitland Road, located between Old Maitland Road (west) to north of the Oak Precinct, from now until Thursday 4 December
- Lane closures and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place on both the northbound and southbound lanes of Maitland Road, located between Shamrock Street to Old Maitland Road (east), from now until Thursday 4 December
- Lane closures and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place on both the northbound and southbound lanes of Maitland Road, located between Newcastle Inner City Bypass to Shamrock Street, on Monday 1 December and Wednesday 3 December
New England Highway, Lochinvar
Maintenance is scheduled on the New England Highway between Kaludah Estate and Windermere Road at Lochinvar.
Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has engaged contractors to carry out the work, which includes culvert repairs, to help extend the life of the stormwater system.
To minimise any impacts, it’ll be carried out from 6pm to 6am Sunday to Thursday over the next two weeks.
Traffic control, single lane closures, alternating stop/slow and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h is in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
New England Highway, Thornton
Maintenance is slated for the New England Highway between Avalon Drive and Thornton Road at Thornton.
TfNSW has engaged contractors to carry out the work, which includes culvert repairs, to help extend the life of the stormwater system.
To minimise any impacts, it’ll be carried out from 6pm to 6am Sunday to Thursday over the next two weeks.

New England Highway, Harpers Hill
Maintenance will go ahead on the New England Highway at Harpers Hill, between High Street and Orient Street, Greta.

New England Highway, Liddell
Maintenance is also taking place on the New England Highway between the interchange and Lemington Road at Liddell.

To minimise any impacts, it’ll be carried out from 6pm to 6am Sunday to Thursday over the next two weeks.

Gillies Bridge, Lovedale
Work’s going ahead along Wilderness Road on Gillies Bridge at Lovedale, too.
TfNSW will carry out geotechnical investigations, which includes drilling boreholes in and around the bridge to help plan for future undertakings, from Monday 1 December to Friday 12 December between 7am and 5pm.
It’s expected to improve safety for motorists by ensuring water flows freely, reducing the impact of flooding and protecting the bridge structure from damage.
Traffic control, single lane closures, stop/slow traffic arrangements and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place.
Road-users are urged to allow up to five minutes’ extra travel time.
