As the NSW school holidays swing into gear, work will resume on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace this week.
However, construction is likely to force a few changed traffic conditions.
Westbound lanes on the New England Highway will be closed for one night on Wednesday 8 April between 8pm and 5am to enable the installation of permanent signage.
Meanwhile, northbound traffic on the M1 Motorway is being directed onto the southbound lane at Black Hill and rejoining the New England Highway at Tarro.
During this brief period, M1 traffic bound for Tarro will need use the turnaround bay at Hexham to travel west.
The off-ramp to Anderson Drive at Tarro is inaccessible, too.
Traffic heading from Newcastle on the New England Highway towards Maitland will detour via John Renshaw Drive and Weakleys Drive.
Other major construction continues across the project from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 8am to 5pm on Saturday; and from 7pm to 5am Monday to Friday.
It’ll also require lane closures and contraflow with intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h at the following locations and times:
From 8pm to 5am, Tuesday 7 April until Friday 10 April
- M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill
- John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield
- New England Highway at Tarro
- Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae
From 7am to 5pm, Tuesday 7 April until Friday 10 April
- Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill
- Old Punt Road near Pacific Highway at Tomago
- New England Highway Eastbound at Tarro
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers.

Important Over-Size and/or Over-Mass (OSOM) information
Operators of OSOM vehicles with a ground contact wider than 3.2 metres or with overall width greater than 4.5 metres are advised to phone the project team on 1800 094 895 at least one day ahead of proposed movement.
Failure to do so will result in significant delays.
