Changed overnight traffic conditions at Jesmond

SHARE

Hunter motorists will face a couple of changed traffic conditions at Jesmond from this week, as work progresses on the Newcastle Inner City Bypass.

The installation of underground conduits to protect and route electrical cables is scheduled to take place between Rankin Park and Jesmond.

This includes the removal of redundant services including overhead cables, hauling cable underground and through open trenches, installing poles and jointing.

Work will also be carried out to set-up drainage structures including stormwater pits, precast concrete structures and stormwater pipes.

That’ll occur overnight to remove concrete medians and islands and instal new asphalt pavements for changes to traffic lanes and line marking.

Night work is expected on Newcastle Road, Blue Gum Road, Chalmers Road and Illoura Street, too, to locate underground utilities and services.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson thanked everyone for their patience during this time.

“During work, from 7pm to 7am on Tuesday 17 and 31 October, one lane will be closed on Illoura Street, with no entry to Illoura Street from Newcastle Road,” they said.

“To ensure the safety of workers and motorists and to minimise traffic impacts, night work will be carried out from 6pm to 7am on Sunday to Thursday nights, from now until Thursday 30 November.

“Day work will take place between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday, as well as Saturday between 8am and 5pm.

“Traffic control, temporary lane closures and machinery operating in or next to the road lanes will be in place during night work.

“Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, keep to sign-posted speed limits and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.”
