Cessnock mattress drop-off returns at new location

SHARE

Cessnock City Council’s hugely-popular free mattress drop-off will return in 2022 – but at a new location.

The event, which also occurs in various towns throughout the Hunter Valley, is scheduled to take place on Saturday 29 January – between 8am and 2pm – at the Mount View Basin car park on Mount View Road, Cessnock (opposite Mount View High School).

Residents of the Cessnock LGA can dispose of up to four mattresses or bases, completely free of charge.

This year, however, locals will be required to register to participate.

And, that can be done by visiting council’s website at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/MattressDropOff

Cessnock City mayor Jay Suvaal is encouraging residents to take advantage of the mattress drop-off.

“This event is always really popular with our community and it’s also great for our environment as 75% of the materials will be recycled,” he said.

“It’s for Cessnock City Council locals only and proof of address is required via a driver’s licence or rates notice.

“Mattress drop-offs must also be made using a vehicle as there will be no pedestrian access.

“If you’re unable to attend the drop-off event, mattresses can be taken to the Cessnock Waste Management Centre for disposal for a fee of $38.”
