A Cessnock couple is in celebration mode after discovering they’d scored more than $1.2 million in the weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw.
But, they’ve been stuck in a surreal loop of rechecking their ticket ever since.
The Hunter residents held one of the five division one winning entries nationally on 27 June.
Each pocketed $1,276,481.57.
When an official from The Lott called to confirm the life-changing win, the pair said the reality still hadn’t quite sunk in.
“We’ve been double-checking it nonstop,” the husband laughed.
“It’s very surreal.
“I initially saw it when I got a notification saying I’d had a win.
“I thought it would be my usual $10 or $20.
“Then I opened it and thought it was $12,000.
“I finally got my wife to check it… and that’s when it hit how much it really was.”
The duo shared the prize had arrived at the perfect time, fast-tracking plans they’d been saving hard towards.
“We’ve been throwing around all sorts of ideas,” they said.
“One thing we’ll do is some renovations.
“We’ve been saving madly for them, so this is a huge help.
“After that, we can do something nice for ourselves.”
Their winning 25-game QuickPick was purchased from Cessnock West Newsagency in Wollombi Road.
Owner Troy Neil shared he was over the moon to hear the news about one of his customers.
“We did it! Congratulations to the winner,” he said.
“The last time we sold a major prizewinning ticket was in 2021 when we sold a 1st Prize in Lucky Lotteries.
“I think everyone will be happy to see someone in our region won so much.
“Here’s to selling more winning tickets soon.”
The winning numbers in Saturday Lotto draw 4689 on 27 June were 36, 17, 15, 37, 28 and 24, while the supplementaries were 12 and 18.
